About

The Independent News Sustainability Summit is a first-of-its-kind conference focused on revenue and sustainability for independent news businesses.

Our hypothesis is that long-term sustainability exists at the intersection of operational resilience, financial health and journalistic impact, and foundational weaknesses in any one of these areas can cause the entire operation to (at best) underperform or (at worst) fall apart.

The Summit will feature conversations, workshops and other sessions addressing all three of these pillars of sustainability, and our goal is for independent news leaders and their teams to walk away with actionable insights and lessons that they can use to strengthen their businesses and build a stronger foundation for growth.

We're also excited to host this year's LION Local Journalism Awards ceremony at the Summit on Friday, October 28th. Only LION members are eligible to submit award entries, but everyone is invited to attend the dinner and ceremony. Tickets are $35, and you can purchase them while registering for the conference.

COVID-19 policy

We acknowledge that we are still living through a pandemic, and every organization is making different decisions about their comfort level hosting in-person events. The Texas Tribune’s office policy, which we’ll use to inform our events policy, requires that every person show proof of vaccination and booster.

We will assess whether masks will be mandated closer to the event, considering factors such as local case counts, the City of Austin’s policy and our own community’s comfort. We’ll also consider other safety protocols as we continue our planning efforts to ensure we’re taking all necessary precautions for attendees to feel safe and comfortable.

Refund policy

Full refunds are available up to 30 days before the event starts. If you are no longer able to attend the conference, you may cancel your tickets via Eventbrite and receive a refund to your original payment method.

If you are unable to attend on short notice due to a Covid diagnosis, you may request a full refund by emailing contact@sustainabilitysummit.news.

Tickets are non-transferable.
